The former OND building between the Lictor Tower and the Town Theatre is probably the most impressive edifice: the monumental colonnade is a perfect example of modern architecture. From a technical point of view, the colonnade may appear superfluous, given the north-facing main façade. However, it is a useful “filter” between the exterior space and the building, providing a covered passage connecting the side entrances of the tower and the theatre, as well as a shady space for the square.
Gustavo Pulitzer organised the interior space in a functional way and divided it into two areas. On the one hand, he designed a huge, high-ceilinged room with a podium, which was well-illuminated thanks to its large windows. On the other, he planned a two-floored area with offices. Originally, the building was accessed from the back garden area, which was connected to the street of the residential houses for managers. A portico alongside the theatre provided a covered walkway connecting the two exterior spaces – the garden and the square.
