The former GIL building (Gioventù Italiana del Littorio) erected in forlì by Cesare Valle (1933-35) is part of a common European architectural and urban heritage, which can be defined as “dissonant” or “inconvenient”, realized by totalitarian and authoritarian regimes in the mid-20th century. Within a restoration intervention on the “modern” in its implications related to the “dissonant” characteristics that distinguish the former GIL, the building is being restored. This case study is of particular interest for its guiding principles, design, and technical choices, all of which can potentially be future trends for interventions on the dissonant architectural heritage.
