The presence of a significant dissonant heritage is what characterizes all the towns involved in the project. The management of dissonant heritage represents a major challenge for local administrators who are constantly looking for new solutions to transform this heritage in an asset for democratic and sustainable development of their communities.
The aim of the project is to stimulate policy makers, cultural operators, and local organizations to elaborate new management solutions based on the “active engagement of local citizens in the creation of narratives of their dissonant heritage”. Only if managed in a wise and participatory way, our dissonant heritage can become a reservoir for bridging, relating, and understanding instead of being used to create and encourage mutually exclusive identities and drawing boarders in the mind of neighbouring communities.
Activities
In order to reach these goals, the partnership will implement a set of activities both at international (events) and local (establishment of local working groups) level.
The activities will focus on:
- involvement of citizens in the creation of local heritage communities to support the local administrations in implementing actions and policies related to the management and promotion of dissonant heritage;
- strengthening relationships between heritage and communities through active engagement;
- capitalization of good practices and policies.
Considering that the project is dealing with dissonant cultural heritage (mostly buildings, monuments, industrial areas, squares etc), an important number of activities will be outdoor:
- Heritage Walks, conceived, prepared and implemented by citizens composing the local working groups;
- Heritage Photo Contest, citizens taking pictures of under-discovered dissonant heritage;
- Open Street Lab, involvement of citizens in creating narratives of the dissonant heritage.
