The presentation of the book “Cesare Valle (1902-2000). Architettura, Ingegneria, Urbanistica in Italia attraverso il Novecento” edited by Micaela Antonucci (Bologna: University Press 2023) is the first event of a series of book presentations promoted by the Atrium Association and entitled “Reflections and Studies on History, Architecture, Art and Places of Fascism”. This first event takes place on Wednesday, 2 October 2024 at 5 PM at the ATRIUM headquarters in Via G. Saffi 18 (Forlì) and is coordinated by architect Andrea Savorelli and sponsored by dall’Ordine degli Architetti della Provincia di Forlì-Cesena.
The book traces the multifaceted professional, educational and institutional experience, spanning the entire 20th century, of the Roman engineer, architect and urbanist Cesare Valle (1902-2000). His very long career can be divided into two periods. During the first period (1926 and 1941), Valle's professional experience matured first in the Roman environment and then expanded to the national and international scene. From the end of 1941 onwards (second period), Valle undertook university teaching and worked as an urban planner in the Ministry of Public Works. Cesare Valle's work is paradigmatic of the interdisciplinary intertwining of architecture, engineering and urban planning in 20th century Italy. It is caracterised by the the balance between intellectual research and institutional roles, between autonomous profession and collective action, offering many original insights to historiography.
