Postmodernism

In the 1980s and beyond, Nowa Huta saw a spate of postmodernist buildings erected in the heart of Nowa Huta, including the Centrum E estate (1986-1995, designed by R. Loegler and his team). The housing complex in vivid blue, grey and pink colours, is today one of the most characteristic elements of the Nowa Huta landscape. The second exceptional example is the Cistercian monastery with the church of Our Lady of Częstochowa (1984-1994, designed by A. Nasfeter and K. Dyga). The architects of the sacred “glass house” achieved the spirit of postmodernism due to the unusual structure of the glass roof, resembling a crystal structure.
