Përmet, Albania

Legacy of totalitarian architecture and showcase of Albanian history

Përmet’s architectural landscape reflects Albania’s totalitarian past, featuring monumental structures, public buildings and repurposed heritage sites of great cultural and historical significance. The Përmet Congress Building is a key example: originally constructed as military barracks, then used for the Congress of Përmet (1944), today it serves as a museum and cultural hub. Another significant site is the Ex-Residence of Officers, today a multifunctional cultural center, promoting community engagement. These restored and revitalized sites contribute to cultural tourism, making Përmet a center for historical reflection and heritage appreciation.
