RETRO Apartment and Museum House

At the discovery of Penyo Penev

Dimitrovgrad is a city founded by the Communists and linked to the chemical production. Much of the city's architecture dates back to the Communist era, from its founding in the lates 1940s to the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Over the years, thanks in part to its participation in ATRIUM, the city has implemented numerous activities and developed expertise in the protection and critical valorization of this heritage. The main sites on the tour throught the city are the Retro Apartment, a museum of everyday life under communism and the Penyo Penev House Museum.

Penyo Penev was one of Bulgaria's greatest poets, and after participating in the youth brigades that built the city, he developed a sense of open criticism and rupture with the experience of Communist rule, ultimately leading to his isolation and death in solitude. Both museums were recently opened. Visit the website for further information.
